Say Ahhhhh

I adore my credit union.

San Francisco Fire Credit Union is offering a SHRED DAY on April 19th. They will have industrial shredding trucks on site, and can accept all documents, as well as credit cards, CD’s, video and cassette tapes, and even x-rays!

Getting that notice in my bank statement today inspired me to encourage you to clean out those unneeded old files, now that one more tax year is complete.

It really feels so good, to only have what you need on file, and also to actually know what’s in the files!

People are advised to keep on file 7 years’ worth of tax documentation. So, this now becomes 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006.

I’ve also noticed while financial organizing, that sometimes people keep documents that are either in duplicate, or would not be necessary in case of audit. Sometimes they hold on to things and they aren’t sure why, and I like demystifying this financial documentation process.

Here is some guidance directly from the IRS about what small biz owners should keep: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/How-long-should-I-keep-records%3F

And a particularly meaty article about “good-enough” organizing, for everyone: http://money.msn.com/how-to-budget/how-to-purge-your-financial-clutter-weston.aspx

Color me weird, but I enjoy helping people get their files neat and clean! I encourage you, if you’ve been considering getting help with this, to schedule financial organizing time with me at your home and/or office before April 19th. We can work together to get your financial info in order and freshened up.

The “Say Ahhhhh” special, is that I will haul away the discarded material to the shredding trucks for no extra charge (as long as we work together on organizing your files before end of the day on April 19th.)

I’m also glad to help remotely with consulting by phone on your financial records system, as well as by scanning in your documentation into the electronic file system of your choice.

It’s a great time of year to make just 1 more push to get your info in order. Say Ahhhhh……..
